1968
Eastern
domination of the United States Junior Amateur Championship continued
as Eddie Pearce, 16, of Temple Terrace, Fla., defeated William B. Harman,
Jr., of Wilmington, Del., 6 and 5, at The Country Club, Brookline, Mass.
It was the third victory for an Easterner in the last four Championships.
Pearce went
ahead at the first hole of the final and steadily built on his lead, closing
out the match with a birdie 4 on the 12th hole. Pearce had uncanny command
of the par 5s. He played 17 of them in the course of the Championship,
and was 15 under par. He won 15 of them, lost one, and halved one. Gary
Koch, of Sarasota, Fla., led the qualifying with 145 for 36 holes.
