Larry J.
Lee, 17, a public course player from Spokane, Washington, won in a fine
final against Michael V. McMahon, of Atlanta, 2 up. The Championship was
played at Stanford University Golf Course, Palo Alto, Calif.
The quarter-finals
included two youngsters from Wahsington, two from Georgia, two from California,
and one each from Colorado and Florida. The final went to the last hole
-a 445-yarder. Lee hit a 5-iron second shot to the center of the green,
got down in two putts for a winning 4.
For the
10th successive year, the tournament drew a record entry. The total was
1,365. Thirty-six states were represented among the 128 players who qualified.
